21st Spanish Physics Olympiad

Nearly 150 high school students convened on the campus of the University of Alciante to take part in the final selection test of the 21st Spanish Physics Olympiad. The gathering, one of whose sponsors was Fundación Marjal, among other entities, started with students dealing with and solving several physics problems. After the two-day test, the five students who got the best mark managed to qualify as the Spanish representative to attend the International Physics Olympiad, which this year takes place in Croatia.

Besides the scientific and educational nature of this event, other types of activities were conducted to entertain the examinees. Specifically, on one day they were invited to visit the town of Guardamar, where they strolled around the city and enjoyed a guided tour around the archaeological site of rábita Califal and the very well-known dunes and pine groves of the area.

The Spanish Physics Olympiad was held for the first time in 1989. Since then, the event has been open to both high school and vocational education student. The main goal of this competition, which is annually organised by the Spanish Royal Society of Physics (RSEF), is to promote the scientific discipline among Spanish youth.
